How to undelete files on the system drive

Important: To increase the chance of files recovery, you should immediatelly stop writing data to the drive with the lost data as new data could overwrite the files you need to undelete.

To undelete files on your system drive (usually drive C:), you should avoid all computer activities that may directly or indirectly write new data on the system drive as it could cause overwriting the lost data and reduce chances of recovery:

- Disconnect the computer from the Internet or a LAN
- Stop using the computer in any way - close all running programs (email clients, browsers, programs running in the background such as instant messaging, anti-virus software, Windows Automatic Updates, etc.)
- Avoid installing new software (including Undelete Deleted Files) on any drive on the computer as in this case the system disk will be used indirectly
- Don't burn data to CD or DVD drives as while burning data Windows creates temporary files and the system disk is in use
- Don't save recovered files to the same drive
