Sending reminder notes over LAN, Internet and via email

How can I send reminder notes over LAN or the Internet?

To send reminder note over LAN or the Internet:

You can use an IP address to send a note to a specific computer over LAN.
To know your IP in LAN:
    - If you have "Classic Start menu"
    1. Right-click the "My Network places" icon and select "Properties" or click the "Start" button and select Settings | Control Panel | Network connections or select Settings | Network connections.
    2. If you have more than one network card, select the necessary network card, right-click on it and select "Properties".
    3. Select Internet protocol (TCP/IP).
    4. Press the "Properties..." button. You'll get the TCP/IP Properties box.
    5. You can find your IP address in the IP address field. If "Obtain an IP address automatically" option is on, you need to ask your network administrator about your IP address.
** in Windows NT, select Network & Dialup Connections and click on Local Area Connections.

    - If you have "XP-style Start menu"
    1. Click the "Start" button and select Control Panel.
    2. If you have more than one network card, select the necessary network card, right-click on it and select "Properties".

You can send notes to any computer in the local network using computer's name. Each computer has its own name on the LAN. To know computer's name:
  • Right-click "My Computer" icon and select "Properties".
  • Open the "Computer name" folder.
  • See "Full computer name" field.
For more information about computer's name consult your network administrator.

How to know IP address to receive notes over the Internet

    You can have:
    • personal static and public at the same time if you have direct connection and your IP address in ISP's network and in outside world is the same
    • personal static IP address but IP address you see on your computer is different from your public IP address.
    • personal dynamic IP address - if you connect through the dial-up/ADSL.
    • non-personal static/dynamic IP address. If your ISP has the same public IP address for a range of users (e.g. for your office, building, etc.), you don't have an easy way to receive notes over the Internet. We recommend you to contact your ISP to try to resolve the problem.
For receiving notes over the Internet you should have personal public IP address - provided by your ISP.
If you don't know your IP address, you can:
    • consult your ISP
    • use different IP tests.
    • use a command-line utility ipconfig
    Syntax: ipconfig [/all]
ipconfig /all : Displays the full TCP/IP configuration for all adapters. Without this parameter, ipconfig displays only the IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway values for each adapter. Adapters can represent physical interfaces, such as installed network adapters, or logical interfaces, such as dial-up connections.

Note: If you have a dynamic IP address, you should determine your IP address each time after you connect to the Internet

How can I send reminder notes via email?

Using Secure Reminder you can send notes via email to any email address. The e-mail will be created using your default e-mail client. Recipient will receive your note in the form of letter with note's body inserted into the e-mail body and note's title as a subject. You can edit the e-mail before sending.
  • Go to the note you want to send.
  • Choose "Send note" from the context menu.
  • Select "Send Note via E-mail" option

  • Enter recipient e-mail address. You can also specify multiple recipients by typing more than one e-mail address separating with a comma (',').
  • Click "Send" button
  • Created e-mail appears. You can edit and send it.

Why can't I send/receive reminder notes over LAN or the Internet?

  • Recipient must have a copy of Notes++ 5.0/Secure Reminder 5.5/MoRUN.net Sticker 4.5 or higher versions installed and running on the computer. Note: receiving notes is not available on Windows 95/98/ME. If a friend you want to send a note to doesn't have Secure Reminder or another MoRUN.net program or the program on the recipient computer is not running, you can put the check mark next to "Use Net Send if can't send notes" option in Administrative Tools to try to send a note as a message using Net Send. The Net Send utility is used to send messages to other users/computers on the network. Sender must have Windows NT/2000/XP or later platforms to use this feature. Recipient must have Messenger service started (for Windows NT/2000/XP) or running WinPop program on Windows 95/98/Me.

  • If you have problems receiving notes, make sure your firewall doesn't block the port Secure Reminder listens to and allows Secure Reminder to receive incoming information. Secure Reminder listens to port 905 by default.

  • If you have problems sending notes, make sure your firewall allows Secure Reminder to send information. If you need to modify firewall setting, read your firewall documentation.

  • If you change the port number in the Network Settings, you need to provide your friends with the new port number so they use it while sending notes to you. If you send a note to somebody who has changed program's listening port in Network Setting, you must specify the current port number the recipient is using.

  • For receiving notes over the Internet you should have personal public IP address - provided by your ISP.

  • Secure Reminder listens to port 905 by default. If you change the port number, you need to provide your friends with the new port number so they use it while sending notes to you. If you are sending a note to somebody who has changed program's* listening port in Network Setting, you must specify the port number the recipient is using.

    What is Net Send?

The Net Send utility is used to send messages to other users/computers on the network. Sender must have Windows NT/2000/XP or later platforms to use this feature. Recipient must have Messenger service started (for Windows NT/2000/XP) or running WinPop program on Windows 95/98/Me.

Try Secure Reminder - powerful reminder software and scheduler. This multifunctional desktop reminder software will track your everyday tasks, remind about holidays, birthdays and other special days and help to manage any personal information like quick notes, phone numbers, web links and passwords.

    High information security

Secure Reminder program is the first desktop reminder software that gives you confidence you need to ensure note information security and keeps your value information away from prying eyes:

Secure Reminder program is organized to maintain three security levels
    • Low security level
All reminder notes are created by Guest account. You can create new desktop reminder notes, work with locked notes or change Administrative tools without password.
    • Normal security level
The access to the program and notes is varied for different users (accounts). To create new desktop reminder notes and work with locked notes, you have to know the password. If you want to make changes in Administrative tools, you have to enter the administrative password. If number of notes for Guest account is not zero, any user is able to create new notes by Guest account and work with Guest notes (reminders) without password (Guest notes have low security level).
    • High security level
This program security level is appropriate for one-person use. You can create reminder notes (desktop reminders) only by admin account. To create new desktop reminder notes and work with locked reminder notes, you have to know the password.
Password-protected notes If you are using normal or high program security level, access to reminder notes is protected with password.

All information is encrypted using 256-bit key AES encryption
    • The Rijndael (AES) algorithm
AES stands for Advanced Encryption Standard. AES is a symmetric key encryption technique which will replace the commonly used Data Encryption Standard (DES).
It was the result of a worldwide call for submissions of encryption algorithms issued by the US Government's National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in 1997 and completed in 2000.
The algorithm, Rijndael, was developed by two Belgian cryptologists, Vincent Rijmen and Joan Daemen. AES provides strong encryption and has been selected by NIST as a Federal Information Processing Standard in November 2001 (FIPS-197).
    • The Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm (ECDSA)
The Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm (ECDSA) is the elliptic curve analogue of the Digital Signature Algorithm (DSA). It was accepted in 1999 as an ANSI standard, and was accepted in 2000 as IEEE and NIST standards.
