Clear search history

There are two kinds of search history stored on your computer - search history stored by your browser and Windows search history.

Search history stored by your browser
Your browser stores everything that you have searched in the Internet. The search history is stored on your computer because of a feature called Autocomplete. Autocomplete stores a list of everything you type in web pages (e.g. search engine history, your name, e-mail address, credit card information, etc). While search history may be helpful for some things, it can seriously compromise your privacy.

Windows search history
If you search an item using Explorer, Windows will automatically keep a record of the search. And this search history will be visible to anyone who begins a new search.

When you use the Search option available in the Start Menu, Windows keeps a list of the last files you searched for and the items you searched for in those files. To view the Windows Files & Folders and Computers search history, go to Start > Search > Files & Folders or Start menu > Search > Computers and then open the Search results window. Even if this information isn't dispalyed in the Search results windows, it is kept in a Windows registry. ClearAllHistory provides an option to clear Windows search history automatically.

Clear search history in Internet Explorer 8.0

• Select Tools and then Delete browsing history.
• Under 'Form data', select 'Delete forms' and click 'Delete'.

Clear search history in Internet Explorer 7.0

• Select Tools.
• Select Internet Options.
• Open the General tab.
• Under Browsing history click the Delete button.
• Click the 'Delete forms' button.

Clear search history in Firefox 3.0

• Open the 'Tools' menu and select 'Clear Private Data'.
• Select the 'Saved form and Search history' option and click 'Clear Private Data Now'.
• Click OK.

Clear search history in Firefox 2.x

• Select Tools.
• Select Options.
• Select Privacy.
• Under Private area click Clear Now.
• Select the 'Saved form and Search history' option and click 'Clear Private Data Now'.
• Click OK.

How to clear Google search history

To clear Google search history, you should clear search history in the Google Toolbar and search history in your browser.
The search history stored by the search box on the Google homepage is stored by your browser, not by Google.
