How to clear the Address bar history

When you type an url in the Address bar, it is saved by your browser. The Address bar shows a list of recently visited sites when you start typing in it. Clicking on the url in this list helps you quickly open the web site you want.
If you do not want your visited sites to appear in the Address bar, you can clear the Address bar history or delete individual items as well as disable the Address bar history. This article explains how to clear the Address bar history in most popular browsers.

Internet Explorer

If you need to delete individual items from your Address bar, open the Address Bar drop-down list, highlight the url you want to delete and click 'X'.

If you need to clear all of your Address Bar history, open Tools > Internet Options, then click Delete under Browsing history, check History and click Delete.

Firefox

In Firefox, to delete an individual item from the Address bar history, highlight it using the up and down arrow keys on your keyboard and press Delete to remove the item from the list.

To completely clear the Address history, open the Tools menu, the select History > Clear Recent history. Here you can select to clear the history for Last Hour, Last Two or Four Hours, clear Today history or select to clear Everything. Then select to clear the Browsing and Download history, leaving all other items unchecked.

To disable the Address bar history, click on the Tools menu at the top of the Firefox window and select Options. In the Options window open the Privacy tab and select Use custom settings for history from the click the drop-down menu next to Firefox will, and uncheck 'Remember browsing history'.

In Firefox, you can also select what results that match what you type the Address bar will display when you start typing. Here you can select to display History and Bookmarks, History, Bookmarks or not to display any results.
